The end

from everything ive been reading and what moyes has been saying in interviews it looks like he will definitely be leaving at the end of the season , so if we go on to win the cup and stay up, will he be remembered for the good times or just the bad this season ?

He should be classed as fucking Hammers legend if he wins this cup as our manager .
You think you get exiting when we score now & then each Saturday just imagine celebrating a winning goal and seeing Rice lift a cup with our colours on. Use old gits are still dinning out on 75/80 as we can recall the celebrations afterwards.

The Intertoto cup was a summer qualifying tournament to progress to one of the proper European tournaments. UEFA just decided to try and make it a bit more fancy by adding a prize of a Cup to whoever qualified.
The fact that each year there were 3 separate “winners” of the cup would tell you it wasn’t a proper competition where only one team wins it.
To suggest it’s similar to the Europa Conference League is dumb as fuck but then expect nothing more from the guy that thought last years Europa League had the worst stature of clubs in history and thinks Seville were one of the worst teams in it.

I'd admit that I've maybe got a greater memory of it that it possibly deserves.
But I was in my early 20's, young dumb and full of cum, and was able to follow the club home and away. It was as great time.
If the shoe was on the other foot, I'm not sure I'd be rubbishing that achievement. It's been the only meaningful win of a trophy in my living memory. That's how deprived anyone my age has been.

No. No. We haven’t established that. The Intertoto just happened to be a UEFA competition. It wasn’t mentioned in the same breath as the other three tournaments. The Cup Winners Cup finished in 1999. The Intertoto was around at the same time for several years. It never replaced it.

In terms of what tournament they qualify for after winning it, yes. No so much on the prestige though.
So we've established that both the Intertoto Cup and the Conference League were/are UEFA's third their tournament, and both winners qualified/qualify for the UEFA/Europa League. There's your comparisons.

The Europa League. The same as the FA Cup winners. Does that make the FA Cup the same as the Intertoto?

What tournament do the Conference League winners qualifier for?

The Intertoto was a pre-season qualifier. Not even in the same conversation as other European tournaments.

cup winners cup wasn't the third fucking tournament.
That's right.
If a team qualified for the both the UEFA Cup and The Cup Winners Cup, they played in the latter.

Decent point there, scouse.
But you agree that the Intertoto Cup was UEFA's 3rd tournament after it though? And the Conference League is the 3rd tournament now?
I enjoyed us winning it. I'm surprised so many fans of ours want to put it down so much considering it was the last thing we won.

cup winners cup wasn't the third fucking tournament.
if it was then the uefa cup winners would have played the European Cup winners in the super cup not the cup winners cup champions

The Cup Winners Cup (UEFA's 3rd tournament) finished in 1999. The next season UEFA started the Intertoto Cup (UEFA's 3rd tournament). We're now in the Europa Conference League (UEFA's 3rd tournament).
Isn't that a comparison?
I bet Matty is laughing his tits off.

How can anyone compare the Conference with the Intertoto? All the Intertoto was was a qualifier for the UEFA Cup. There wasn’t even a final with one winner. The Conference is a proper tournament in its own right, even if it is third rate.
We never celebrated winning the Intertoto. We celebrated a great win at Metz and qualifying for Europe for the first time in nearly 20 years.

Winning the conference league is pretty critical for us. If we win that and Moyes leaves we have a a great chance of getting a decent young progressive manager in, and having a higher level of European football on offer will make us more attractive to better players.
It’s West Ham though so we will likely not win the conference league, and Moyes will stay.

How elite a trophy is, should be judged on difficulty to win it. My order is:
Premier League Champions League FA Cup/ League Cup (only difference is no pt teams) Europa League Europa Conference League Papa Johns Trophy :)
Winning the Conference league will be great (for us), as it'll mean more European football next season and we'll be facing far better opposition.

Trundle,
Maybe you could just hold your hands up and just say you made a stupid comment instead of saying “It was months ago” and then running off.
Putting that aside you still haven’t said who exactly said this was an “Elite European competition”??

You carry on with your quest regarding something I said months ago on here, swindon, if it helps you.
